City of Elliot Lake

Situated in beautiful Northern Ontario, the City of Elliot Lake is a modern, full service community with a population of 11,498 offering residents all of the amenities one would expect to find in a larger urban centre, but with all of the charm of a small town.  The community is surrounded by the majestic Boreal forest, hundreds of lakes, winding rivers, and hills of Precambrian bedrock, making it an ideal destination for recreational pursuits and a relaxed atmosphere.

This one time mining community, is now one of the most popular retirement destinations in the province. Elliot Lake offers one of the most affordable housing markets anywhere in Canada, with average housing prices 70% lower than the provincial average.  The community offers residents and visitors alike, a wide breadth of services such as shopping and retail services, health care and emergency services and a transit system, all in a safe, clean, affordable and friendly atmosphere.

Elliot Lake has over 350 businesses and services including Canada’s five major banks, a credit union, along with national retailers such as Canadian Tire, Shopper’s Drug Mart, Rexall Drugs, Rona, FoodLand, Dollarama, No Frills, and The Source, to name a few.  Locally owned and operated businesses have a strong presence and include furniture stores, car dealerships, personal services, pet shops, flower and gift shops, clothing stores, hardware and many others.

A broad spectrum of health care services are available from acute hospital care, to assisted living and home care services, you will find it all. The community is served by a complement of medical professionals ranging from surgeons, and doctors to optometrists and massage therapists. Elliot Lake Lifestyle

In Elliot Lake life is active! With countless lakes and rivers just minutes from your doorstep, there is easy access to canoe routes and an abundance of opportunities for boating, fishing, kayaking and hiking. Elliot Lake is home to Stone Ridge at Elliot Lake, an 18 hole championship golf course and Mount Dufour, a downhill ski area along with cross country ski trail systems, snowmobile and ATV trails systems.  Situated directly in the community are two beautiful beaches, a tennis club, a curling club, fitness centers, and an indoor municipal swimming pool.

Elliot Lake has a vibrant arts community representing many aspects of the arts including visual arts, music, dance, theatre, cultural sponsorships, and public service. The local Arts Council has some 30 groups under its umbrella. Located in the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre are several facilities including a potter’s studio, an art room with floor looms, a tapestry loom, printmaking and stained glass equipment as well as space for painting. Workshops in various media are also available. Many local artists also work from their own studio, however, these individuals most often participate in the public shows and events, as well as exhibiting in out-of-town shows and galleries.

The highly successful Elliot Lake Entertainment Series is the foremost presenter of performing arts in the community. This organization sponsors Canadian performers and offers a series of four or more shows per season. Many famous performers have been brought to Elliot Lake including: Buffy Sainte-Marie, John McDermott, Quaretto Gelato, George Fox, Liona Boyd, Sylvia Tyson, Forever Plaid… to name a few.

There are countless clubs and organizations in the community, providing plenty of opportunities to volunteer, meet new people, or to partake in a favourite pastime.
